Summer Reading Program 2018

The New Mexico State Library proudly supports summer reading programs at public libraries throughout the state. As a member of the Collaborative Summer Library Program, NMSL sponsors public libraries membership to join in this national consortium. The 2018 theme is music:

  • Children: Libraries Rock!
  • Teens: Libraries Rock!
  • Adults: Libraries Rock!

The winner of the 2017 Teen Video Challenge was the Rio Rancho Public Libraries- Loma Colorado


In 2017 parents & caregivers returned impact surveys to 43 public libraries around the state, according to these surveys they reported their child(ren)'s:

  • 80.45% enjoyment of reading increased
  • 76.25% read more voluntarily
  • 72.33% reading skill increased
  • 78.63% amount of reading increased
  • 62.75% verbal communication skills increased
  • 48.98% written communication skills increased
  • 98.76% will continue to bring their child(ren) to the library in the fall
  • 92.63% felt incentives encouraged reading

Future Summer Reading Programs:

  • 2019: Space- A Universe of Stories, artwork for early literacy and children's programs provided by Leeza Hernandez
  • 2020: Fairytales/Mythology/Fantasy- slogan TBD, artwork provided by LeUyen Pham
