Public Library Funding Study 2009/2010
In 2009/2010, the New Mexico State Library contracted with the University of New Mexico, Bureau of Business and Economic Research to conduct a study of funding for New Mexico public libraries. The purposes of the study, "Toward Sustainable Funding for Library Operations" were to:
- Investigate how local public libraries across the state (municipal, county, tribal and non-profits) currently fund their operations.
- Examine the major revenue sources used to support public library services in different communities, specifically the gross receipts tax and the property tax, measuring both tax capacity and effort for municipalities and counties.
- Examine how tribal governments and local non-profit organization currently fund the provision of library services
- Explore funding options for public library operations for New Mexico.
This study was funded under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and completed in April 2010.
