The Second Floor Research Room is open from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Southwest Research Room (ground floor) is open Wednesday and Friday only from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Virtual and telephone reference requests are handled daily, Monday through Friday, to serve clients with research needs. Parking is ample; computers are available for researchers; and wireless access is provided in the building.
State Library Reference Librarians can help you focus your research and direct you to appropriate online resources that provide a depth and precision that is not possible with Google and other common Internet search engines.
Researchers can use the New Mexico State Library online catalog to search State Library collections as well as the library collections of the 7 other New Mexico state agency SALSA libraries. Collections can be searched collectively or individually.
If you are unable to find a publication or report in the online catalogs please: Ask a Librarian. Many publications in our collection are not included in the catalog and can only be located using print indexes. Librarians can also search library collections throughout the state and nation, allowing patrons to indentify titles for InterLibrary Loan.
El Portal is a collection of databases which provide access to magazine and journal articles for all New Mexicans 24/7 from home, office, or public, academic, and school libraries statewide.
Additional databases provided at the State Library-
The following databases can be used in the State Library (no remote access)
- America History and Life - history journal articles
- JSTOR - full text articles in the humanities
The Interlibrary Reference Service answers reference questions from libraries across the state and is designed to help all New Mexico libraries best serve their own patrons. We complement and supplement the libraries’ own collections and expertise through
- in-depth and timely reference support to librarians;
- access to an extensive reference collection at the State Library; and
- availability of professional development materials for library science.
